December 2018
Shortly after The Bus broke away from its' trailer yet again, I decided to try and make the bike into something else entirely. I had seen online, a bike that people claimed was "impossible to ride". You literally had to unlearn how to ride a normal bike, and the people who were able to ride backwards bikes were no longer able to ride normal bikes.
The concept was simple: two diagonally-teethed cogs, so that when you turned one to the left, the other would turn to the right.
This project lasted over a couple of weeks, as it was my first project with my own welder. I had just purchased a £50 arc welder. The welds were inconsistent and splattery, but the backwards bike worked for one evening.
After that, the welds all crumbled away and broke. I clearly needed a lot more practice at welding. I tried to ride it around - but, as promised, it was truly impossible. Even if I switched my hands it was still incomprehensible how anybody could ride this freaky contraption.
Sadly I forgot to take any good photos...
But there is a video below!
